Kokubo Mamoru visits his aunt Kokubo Naoko`s home and discovers she has been murdered. While Mamoru is there, his aunt`s famously foul-mouthed myna bird Nine escapes. Naoko lives with her maid Megumi. Megumi was not at home because she was out shopping. It is revealed that Naoko, a collector of rare old books, had purchased a forgery from used book seller Sayama. Inspector Megure believes Mamoru, Megumi, or Sayama is the culprit, but all three of them have alibis. Nine says something that brings Conan closer to the truth behind the case...
