Synopsis
During the early 20th century, along with technological advancements, scientists were able to develop sophisticated magic. The combination of science and sorcery was Machinart, circuits made from spells that were put into objects to bring them to life and even gain a personality. It was developed as a military weapon and has now spread throughout the world. Akabane Raishin is now attending the Royal Academy to become the best in the world. Accompanied by the lovely teenage girl Yaya, who is actually Raishin’s puppet weapon, he plans on rocketing to the top of the class. However, his test scores come nearly dead last although his combat skills and determination are second to none. Raishin has to compete with the deadliest of classmates if he wants to come out as the king.

Episode 1
Facing Cannibal Candy I
Walpurgis Machinart Academy in England is the greatest educational institute in the world of magic. Raishin and his automaton Yaya are coming from Japan to Liverpool for the "Wiseman" tournament held at the academy, but only the top 100 students are allowed to participate and Raishin exam results puts him 1235th position out of 1236. Time for plan B, Raishin ask Charlotte and Sigmund in duel. She accept and Sigmund transform into a huge dragon. The battle begin!

Facing Cannibal Candy II
Multiple automatons are found in a decrepit state and their magic circuit removed. The culprit seems to be a puppeteer called "Cannibal Candy" but is identity is unknown. Raishin is asked by the discipline committee chief, Felix, to eliminate it and in exchange, he would allow him to enter the tournament.

Facing Cannibal Candy III
At the crime scene, Raishin and Charlotte run into Felix, who scares Charlotte away. Back at the dorms, Raishin gives Yaya a pair of boots and tells her that he went out with Charlotte to confirm that she is not Cannibal Candy. Raishin receives a phone call from Lisette that Charlotte went missing from her dorm. Shoko makes a visit to the dorms with Irori and Komurasaki. Shoko tells Raishin that automatons are not humans and recalls the time she found Raishin. Lisette calls Raishin out to enter an automaton laboratory, where Raishin discovers that Lisette's corpse is being preserved in Felix's locker and that the Lisette that he had been talking to is actually a banned automaton. Outside the laboratory, Charlotte defeats an automaton, but it is a trap set by Felix to frame her as Cannibal Candy. Charlotte figures out that Felix is Cannibal Candy. Felix is about to kill Charlotte until an injured Raishin and Yaya arrive.

Facing Cannibal Candy IV
Raishin and Yaya learn about Charlotte's past from Sigmund. Charlotte's family was distinguished for making automatons, but the family was stripped of everything when a boy of high social status was injured by one of her automatons. Thus Charlotte is attending school on a scholarship in order to reunite her family. Lisette is revealed to be Felix's automaton Eliza and is capable of transforming into mist. Yaya is able to defeat Eliza when her blood was spilled by Eliza's attack to decrease the effectiveness of Eliza's mist magic as only one type of magic could be utilized at a time. Following the battle, Raishin is allowed to participate in the festival despite his poor grades, and Charlotte gives Raishin a pendant with defensive capabilities as a gift for clearing her name.

Raishin and Yaya come back from an exercise session to find a strange girl hanging from the ceiling of their room... and things only get weirder from there.
