The Twilights, Shinyao, and Chris agree to meet in secret so they won't be noticed by Midnight Sun. Meanwhile, Haysin and the Backup's game begins: a contest to see if Haysin will awaken Ton's powers first, or if the Backup will awaken Shinyao's powers before him. Ton disperses her pursuers as she closes in on Shinyao, but she's stopped by the powerful Umbra Haysin has unleashed on the city. She's forced to choose between Shinyao and the lives of the city's residents. Meanwhile, despite their efforts, Shinyao is captured by the Backup's soldiers, and Chris falls into the river when he's shot full of silver bullets...
