Conan and his friends discover the bodies of real estate company president Kawai Shinzo and his former employee Shibata Kensuke in Shinzo`s home. Shibata was fired for embezzling money from the company. Shinzo`s wife Yuko, who was napping at the time of the murder, claims today was the day he was going to return the money. Shinzo promised Shibata that he would rehire him if he returned the money. However, Shinzo allegedly had no intention of rehiring him. Inspector Megure believes they killed each other after getting into an argument, but Conan finds something strange about the case...
