At the apartment where Shukichi attends shogi study sessions, Genda Yasukiyo, one of the group`s members, is murdered. The home of former study group member Kishimoto Yuhei catches fire, and his body is found inside. Meanwhile, Shukichi seems to have noticed a clue to the culprit`s identity and is kidnapped.
